Breast Reduction Recovery Timeline
Breast reduction recovery, like any surgery, takes time, and the better you prepare for it, the easier it will be. Therefore,it is critical to understand what to expect to plan your life duties (work, kids, home duties, social events, etc.) accordingly. The appearance of breast reduction scars will be determined by the size of your breasts and the amount of reduction you desire.
The recovery can be factored into the following timelines.
IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE SURGERY
Breast lift surgery is usually done under general anaesthesia, and the patient is discharged the next day. You will feel tired, sleepy, and possibly dizzy when you wake up from anaesthesia. Swelling and pressure will also be felt in the chest area, especially when you breathe deeply. You are strictly recommended to avoid driving home and arrange for pick-up back to home.
THE FIRST THREE DAYS
Breast reduction recovery can be painful for the first 48 hours, so it’s best to take the pain relievers prescribed by your doctor. You must rest completely for the first 24 hours before getting up and showering the next day. We recommend resting at home for the first three days. The drainage tubes will be in place for about 24 to 48 hours before being removed at your first appointment.
AFTER A WEEK
After three days, most patients can resume simple activities. After a week, you may be able to engage in other activities such as driving, short walks, dropping children off at school, evening parties, and lighthouse cleaning.
AFTER TWO WEEKS
You can return to work (avoiding exertion) and start with a light gyming. If you’re healing normally, you can also go swimming (covering the scars). Then, around ten days after surgery, the stitches are removed.
AFTER FOUR WEEKS
You can resume your pre-surgery lifestyle, including intense physical activities, the use of normal bras, and sleeping on your stomach. However, if pressed, the scars may still be slightly tender.
AFTER THREE MONTHS
After 3 to 6 months, the final result of a breast reduction surgery is expected as the shape and position of the breasts settle.
AFTER TWELVE MONTHS
Scars are permanent, but they fade over time, usually between 12 and 18 months.
