About Facelift & Necklift
Our face is unique to us and is a part that expresses emotions and youthfulness. As we age, the facial skin starts to lose elasticity and volume. Other signs such as wrinkles, brown spots and skin texture changes also occur. Though they are a natural part ageing process, they may occur much early in some of you due to genetics or poor skincare, making you look much older than you are.
A facelift, also known as a rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin from the face, neck or both and lifts the tissues below the skin to improve facial appearance and contour. It is called a SMAS lift. There are other types of facelifts as well, such as SMAS plication and deep plane facelift. A facelift can improve the appearance of wrinkles, sagging folds, jowls, double chin, marionette lines, prominent nasolabial folds, neckbands and provide a more defined structure to your face.
However, a facelift will not treat the excess skin and laxity of the eyelids and the forehead. For these areas, a blepharoplasty and brow lift procedure are often combined with facelift surgery.
Typical Causes Of Early Signs Of Ageing
Ageing results in changes to the facial anatomy. The face consists of bone, soft tissues and skin. As we age, all these three structures evolve, resulting in telltale signs of facial ageing.
Environment factors such as exposure to the sun, lifestyle choices such as smoking, and excessive drinking impact the ageing of the face.
Predominantly these age-related changes manifest as reduced elasticity of the skin, presence of fixed wrinkles, prominent nasolabial and marionette folds, jowls, excess skin around the eyes, the descent of eyebrows and loss of soft tissue and bone volume.
Dr Adnan’s Facelift in Dubai aims to address these age-related changes affecting the face and the neck. Typically a full facelift will reverse the age-related changes affecting the mid to lower face and the neck.
Different Facelift Procedures
At the time of consultation, Dr Adnan will assess your candidacy for this procedure by taking a full medical history and examining your face. He will then devise a treatment plan unique to your face and explain the entire procedure with all the pros and cons.
A facelift takes two to five hours to complete, might be longer if combined with other cosmetic procedures.
The plastic surgeon will use intravenous sedation or general anaesthesia. The incision for the facelift depends on the techniques used and on the patient’s preferences. The options for a facelift are:

A full facelift (SMAS flap)
An incision is generally one continuous cut that begins in the temple’s hairline and goes around the ears into the lower scalp. The skin and musculoaponeurotic layer (SMAS) is raised in a bilaminar fashion and resuspended. Dr Adnan occasionally also injects nano-fat to restore lost volume in selected areas of the face. This fat is obtained via liposuction. Another incision below the chin is sometimes needed to improve the neck contour further and treat platysma bands.
Limited incision or short scar facelift
It is a shorter and smaller incision than a traditional facelift. These are often referred to as mini-lifts. It is recommended for people with less skin laxity. The result is, however, not as powerful as a full facelift.
Neck lift incision
This incision treats the jowls, loose skin of the neck, fatty deposits under the chin. Neck lift incision begins from the earlobe, goes around the ear into the lower scalp, and ends behind the ears. Sometimes another small incision is also made beneath the chin. This limited incision is used when only neck lift is desired. After the incision, the incisions are sealed with sutures, skin bandages, or surgical glue.
Some advanced adjuncts have been developed to further improve cosmetic outcomes following a face and neck lift. These include the use of J-plasma, VASER neck liposuction, and fat injections to restore lost volume. In addition, surface lasers or chemical peels may improve the quality of the skin surface and treat fine wrinkles.

Recovery
After the facelift in Dubai, a hospital stay for one night may be required, or this could be performed as a day case. Recovery takes about two weeks, and you can start a vigorous activity within four weeks. Sutures are removed within ten days of the surgery.
Swelling, moderate pain, bruising, and numbness after the facelift is considered normal.
The surgeon will recommend pain medication. The surgeon will provide a follow-up schedule, so it’s important to follow advice after surgery to reduce adverse events and complications.
After discharge, Dr Adnan and his team will regularly see you in the clinic every 4-5 days until you are fully healed.
To minimise the risks, follow these tips suggested by Dr Adnan:
- Stay home during the initial weeks after the surgery.
- It would be better if you avoid excessive pressure on the incision, avoid makeup, vigorous activities.
- Protect the incision from the sun for three months, as it can darken the scar.
FAQ's
Like any procedure, face and neck lift surgery have risks of complications. However, Dr Adnan minimises the risks of these complications after performing a detailed assessment for this procedure at the time of consultation. Facelift risks include hematoma, scarring, nerve injury/weakness, bleeding, infections, and anaesthesia-associated risks.
Several risk factors such as smoking, diabetes, elevated blood pressure or any other medical conditions increase these complications. In some instances, Dr Adnan may defer the surgery until these conditions are treated first. In addition, you have to avoid NSAIDs and other blood-thinning medication, as it increases the risk of hematoma after a facelift procedure.
It is important to understand that although face and neck lift will take years of you and restore how you looked perhaps 10-15 years previously. Natural ageing will continue with time, but most patients are happy 10-15 post-surgery with the results.
A local anaesthetic is used at the end of the experiment to minimise the discomfort. You might experience temporary tightness on the face. Dr Adnan will try his best to make this surgery as pain-free as possible.
Your facelift price in Dubai will be unique to your aesthetic requirements as each treatment plan is unique to the individual. However, the cost of a full face and neck lift starts at 65000 AED (excluding VAT).
