Saggy Butts – Causes, Treatments and Procedures
8th November 2022
A fabulous body is something we can all aspire to…and deserve. One aspect of the body of our dreams is firm and well-shaped buttocks, which can change your whole look, how your clothes fit and how you feel about yourself.
This is especially true for women with saggy butts, a condition which affects more females than males. This is because women naturally store more fat around the buttocks and hips than men.
As our bodies inevitably change as we go through stages such as pregnancy, weight gain or loss and ageing, unfortunately our butts can end up not as perky as we would like.
In this post we’ll explain more about saggy butts and their causes and what you can do to regain that firm and peachy butt!
What causes saggy butts?
Ageing: As we age, our gluteal muscles lose some strength and tone. This means that the buttocks begin to lose their previous firm appearance.
Lack of exercise/poor diet: A sedentary lifestyle, combined with poor dietary choices, can contribute to sagging buttocks. Excess fat cells accumulate between the gluteal muscles and the skin, causing the skin to stretch. And so the appearance of excess skin can make the buttocks appear to sag.
Sedentary lifestyle: If you have to sit for long periods because of your job, for example, you may find that this contributes to a saggy butt. This is because excess fat cells accumulate around the buttocks, causing them to sag.
Significant weight loss: Significant weight loss can contribute to saggy buttocks. Skin stretches due to excess fat cells and may not easily return to its previous state. Ageing makes this problem worse as skin loses its elasticity as time goes on. This creates the appearance of excess skin, which contributes to saggy buttocks.

What is the treatment for saggy butts?
Types of plastic surgery for buttocks
Surgery is widely regarded as the most effective treatment for sagging buttocks. There are two approaches to sagging buttocks surgery.
The first is a buttock lift, which involves removing loose skin between the upper buttock and the lower back. Buttock lift surgery is performed under general anaesthesia and takes between one and two hours to complete when performed as a stand-alone procedure.
Another technique for improving buttock firmness, volume and projection is fat transfer to the buttocks, also known as a Brazilian butt lift or BBL. BBL surgery can be combined with buttock lift surgery. Brazilian butt lift surgery is not ideal for patients who have lost significant weight because it does not involve skin removal. A surgical buttock lift to remove loose skin is the best form of saggy buttocks surgery for people who have lost a lot of weight.
The result of whichever type of plastic surgery for buttocks that you go for will be elevated self–esteem thanks to your enhanced look, which will make you look just fabulous in whatever clothing you choose.
Other procedures that can be combined with buttock surgery
Thigh lift surgery, which is most commonly combined with a buttock lift, involves removing saggy and loose skin on the inner or outer thighs. A firmer-looking thigh with smooth skin is the result.
Liposuction is an excellent treatment for removing excess fat cells and can be combined with a thigh lift or buttock lift. After significant weight loss areas of excessive fat are common, and liposuction can produce a more contoured and sculpted appearance.
Abdominoplasty, also known as tummy tuck surgery, can remove excess stomach skin, resulting in a tighter and firmer-looking abdomen. As part of a Brazilian tummy tuck procedure, abdominoplasty is frequently combined with liposuction.
What are the benefits of buttock lift surgeries?
- Buttocks are more defined and firm-looking
- Removal of excess skin
- Enhanced buttock with appropriate volume
- Buttocks that are toned and lifted
- Better-looking contoured buttocks
